2/2000 Dave Starr answers questions regarding this website, Question: What is the story behind this website? Answer: I wanted to share with the VR fans all of the thousands of pictures and stories from my more than 9 years with the band. It seems to make sense to me, after all - why should I just leave all of this stuff sitting in a closet at my home? Question:What happened with your old "Welcome to the Ball" site? Answer: I don't want to say any nasty things, so lets just say that it was not working out. Live and learn. I have moved on, and I am very happy with this new one and with the people from SorceryStudios who are helping me out. It is much better in all aspects! Question: Who took all of these pictures? Answer: Well most of the candid shots were taken by me, or someone who I would give the camera to and ask them to take the picture. Same thing with the live shots, I would usually give the camera to a fan in the crowd and have them take a few shots of us. As far as the professional studio shots, I must give credit to the following: Jim Marshall, John Umphrey, William Hames, and Steve Jennings. Question: I here you are transfering digital images from your vast VR video collection as well? Answer: Yes I will, but not yet at this moment. I have so many regular pictures to scan and use, but I will eventually be using my video footage to take out digital picture images that I can post on the site. This will be great for stuff like our Mexico City shows in 1988, I did not have my 35mm camera with me-but I took lots of video footage. Question: Why the name REALVR? Are you worried that this may cause problems with certain people? Answer: The name REALVR was an idea from some VR fans who told me that is how they refer to the Glory Years of the band. It just sort of stuck with me, so I used it. As far as problems with the name, if anyone wants to complain...they can complain to the VR faithful who came up with it! In other words, they can shut their pie holes....... Question: Most VR fans know about the problems that still exist with you and Geoff. Did this make you feel uneasy or resentful when you were sitting in front of the computer scanning pictures of him, and writing stories about your time together in VR? Answer: I must admit when I started this project last year, it was a little strange for me to be sifting through all of my pictures and trying to find the best ones of Geoff. I made a decision early on that he would get the same treatment as the others. It is a bit weird at times, but I have to deal with it. This website is designed to honor the memory of Vicious Rumors, and in doing so I must honor all of us and what we did together as a team. Regardless of how bad things turned out with VR and how bad Geoff has treated me, I will not do the same to him. I choose to take the high road. Question: What are you up to these days musically? Answer: I am concentrating on song writing now. I am co-writing some songs for the German band "Destillery". I think I will have one or two tunes on their next cd. They are a great young metal band, and they are big fans of the original VR. I also spoke recently to Eric Peterson from Testament about writing some stuff together. As far as me in a band, not now-and I am not really looking for that situation at this time. But who knows for the future. Question: Whats up with your return to Vintage Moto-Cross racing? Answer: I have been doing it for about 4 years now, after being out of it for almost 20 years! My 2000 season starts at the end of February. My racing partner (Chris Otero) and I do about 15 to 20 races a years on the west coast. It kind of reminds me of being in VR, we do alot of driving in our van, staying in Motel 6's, etc. I am running a mile a day and lifting weights to get ready for the new season. Not easy at age 39! Question: Last year there were some rumors flying around about a VR reunion, any truth to this? Answer: I heard them as well, and Mark and I did talk about it a few times. I just don't know at this time, there are alot of problems that would have to be worked out. As bad as things are with Geoff and I, they are much worse between him and Larry. Who knows what the future holds, anything is possible. |
