Live review from "The Whisky"
Hollywood, CA
By Melinda Garcia

Vicious Rumors, the San Francisco based quintet, greeted Southern California with a tremendous performance at the Whisky. This five man crew consists of Carl Albert on lead vocals, Mark McGee and Geoff Thorpe on guitars, Dave Starr on bass, and Larry Howe on drums. They performed with amazing energy and raw power in their attempt to sample songs from their Atlantic debut album, "VICIOUS RUMORS"

One of the most gripping songs performed that night from the LP was "On the Edge". The thunderous intro from Larry Howe on drums, as well as the dual guitarworks of McGee and Thorpe were outstanding. In addition, McGee's wailing guitar solo definitely stood out.

By far the most notable songs were from the bands past Shrapnel Records LP's, "Soldiers of the Night" (1986) and "Digital Dictator" (1988). Songs such as "March or Die", "Lady took a Chance", and "Digital Dictator" got the crowd moving. It was almost as if the crowd was relieved to hear the more familiar tunes.

,p>Albert's soaring vocals are remarkably similar to those of Bruce Dickinson and Geoff Tate. He along with Starr on bass virtually stole the show with their flamboyance and rapport with the crowd.

Although the Whisky was far from being packed, the majority of the crowd were obviously die-hard fans who've stuck with the band through the years. These fans sang along with almost as much conviction and energy as Albert himself.

With their unrelenting performance at the Whisky, Vicious Rumors not only satisfied their loyal following, but managed to win over new fans as well.
