Heavy-duty,no nonsense bottom end and live fury is what Dave brought to VR. Never selfish and always willing to play the "song" as opposed to the bass line, Dave locked in with Larry to provide the band with a powerful rhythm section and a solid backbone for Mark and Geoff's often complex guitar parts. Although a fan of the "keep it simple" school of bass playing, Dave would on occasion show his musicianship with melodic bass lines on such tunes as: 'Out of the Shadows','Thrill of the Hunt' and 'Ends of the Earth'. Actually more of a guitarist than a bass player, Dave often would say that his greatest contribution to the band was bringing in Carl and Mark to complete the classic VR that the fans would come to love.
