The Atlantic Years part 1:

Atlantic Era history intro

I thought that writing the history for my time in VR would be a piece of cake. For the most part, the Soldiers and Digital era sections were not to difficult. But as I worked my way up to 1989 and landing our deal with Atlantic Records, I seemed to have hit a brick wall.

I just looked at the last segment of the Digital era and realized that I wrote it months ago! I had not done any of the band history since then, instead using the time to scan pictures and add them to the galleries, add new press, and work on the Carl Tribute and other parts of the site. All of these things were needed anyway, but I do feel that I have been avoiding the inevitable...

OK, so you may say what's the big deal Dave...just type away! Well, it's not that easy. I take this site very seriously, and I am responsible for its content and overall makeup. Even though the Atlantic era was the most recent time for me in VR, that does not make it any easier to write. Let me try to explain...

The years 1989 to 1993 were four very busy, intense, chaotic, wonderful, rewarding, painful, and crazy days. I'm sure I left out many possible adjectives, but I think you get the point. In those four years we went from the tremendous highs of getting signed to a big label deal (1989) touring the world, making MTV video's and having a blast..... to crashing and burning out (92-93) with infighting, finger pointing, drug abuse, stupid decision making, chaos and the like. We lost site of who we were and what we were all about (like in the early days).

Lest you think that I will blame everyone else for the downfall of Vicious Rumors, you are wrong. I had my own problems as well. Many people do not know of the fact that I was nearly fired from the band in 1991, or that I had to file for Bankruptcy the same year, and that I had on and off trouble with alcohol. Not to mention the problems with my marriage that I have already spoken of in interviews contained in this site.

I will do the best that I can with this remarkable and eventually tragic part of VR history, it won't be easy. That's all I can do. I know some people will not be happy with what they will read, but that's too bad. If you don't like my opinions, and you don't like the truth....then stay away. If you love VR and all of it's ups and downs, good, bad, and ugly...then stick with me as I continue to tell the story of one of the greatest (and underrated) metal bands of all time.......
